Am I required to go to the Independent Medical Examination?
While it is true that in Illinois the injured employee has a right to choose and obtain treatment from their own doctor, that does not mean that they’re not required to occasionally be seen by a doctor of the employer’s choosing. These are called independent medical evaluations or independent medical examinations and your doctor has the right to send you. And yes, you are required to attend the independent medical exam. Frequently the opinion that’s rendered by the doctor chosen by the employer differs from the opinion of the treating physician of the employee.
